Special Exhibition of Okinawa’s Return to the Mainland, 「Okinawa Through the Photopgrapher 1972-2017」
The shape of Okinawa since its return to mainland through a large scale exhibition
2017 will welcome the 45th year since Okinawa returned to the mainland. There will be a special broadcasted exhibition organized by the Okinawa Prefectural Museum & Art Museum and NHK Okinawa Broadcasting Bureau, to reflect on the time of Okinawa after its return to the mainland through photographers’ work.
Since it returned to the mainland in 1972, highly esteemed photographers from around the world have taken pictures of Okinawa from their own perspectives, and many continue to do so today. This large scale exhibition will showcase the shape of Okinawa since its return to the mainland through more than 150 pieces of work by photographers.
