Okinawa is a subtropical island with an yearly average temperature above 68°F. During summers, wind from the ocean around makes its temperature rarely goes above 86°F. Wearing sunglasses is recommended when you drive or are at beaches. Except between May and October, its low temperature gets 59°F which wouldn’t be suitable for swimming in the waters.

January		You can feel colder despite of the climate due to its high speed of wind from north. Wearing a jacket is recommended in the morning and evening.
February		Temperature can get high occasionally and cherry blossoms start blooming everywhere on the island. Carrying a coat is recommended since sometimes wind gets strong.
March		March is the best time of the year though it gets a little bit chilly in the morning and evening. Carrying a cardigan with you is recommended.
April		April is also the best month of the year. Sunblock will be necessary as the sun ray can get strong occasionary.
May		Rainy season starts after Golden Week though it rains neither everyday nor all day long. Clear days can be seen in a row in late May when it marks the end of the rainy season.
June		Temperature increases and keeps hot days. Sunblock, hat and sunglasses are highly recommended.
July		High temperature and not much rain. You will need to be careful not to get sunstroke.
August		High temperature. It starts to bring a succesion of fierce typhoons from late of the month. There are many jellyfish breeding in the waters.
September		High temperature and there are a succesion of typoons. The waves tend to get high under the influence of typoons.
October		Hot days in eaerly of October. The temperature starts to drop down in late of the month.
November		Most beaches and outside pools are closed up in late of the month.
December		Low temperature and sparse rainfall around new years. Sweater or coat is recommended.

Sudden short heavy rains even on sunny.
It is rare to rain all day long even during a rainy season. Churaumi aquarium and some other places can still be good choices on rainy days.

Typhoon

Typhoon season arrives after the rainy season. Although only a few hit Okinawa, it brings a bigger damage as a big one hits. If you encounter one during your stay in Okinawa, follow your hotel’s lead. Stocking enough water, food and charge your phone for in case the power gets shut off are highly recommended.

If you are joining in a tour, follow your tour conductor’s lead. If you are on your own then getting on the internet is also one of the ways for updates. If it seems to be delayed till next day, arranging a hotel for the night sooner will be better.
